Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges – How to Choose the Right Model
Our ultrasonic wall thickness gauges offer non-destructive measurement from a single side and are used in applications ranging from corrosion inspection to thin-wall precision control. Choosing the right model depends on the material, coating, surface condition, and required functionality.
Measuring Range
For homogeneous materials starting at 0.15 mm, choose a precision model like the TI-007X, which uses a delay-line probe for high-resolution readings. If you're working with thicker materials up to 254 mm, models such as the TI-25MX or TI-CMX are more suitable, offering broad compatibility with different probes.
Resolution
For applications requiring ultra-precise measurements, such as thin materials, the TI-007X Series provides resolutions of 0.001 mm. Most standard models offer 0.01 mm resolution, which is sufficient for general-purpose inspections.
Measurement of Coated Materials
If you need to measure painted or coated surfaces without removing the coating, select a gauge that supports Echo-Echo mode, such as the TI-25DLXT, TI-MMX, or TI-CMX Series. These models allow accurate wall thickness readings through paint or coatings.
Data Storage
When you need to record readings for later analysis, models with built-in memory such as the TI-007DLX, TI-25DLXT, or TI-MMX-DL are ideal. These can store thousands of measurements and are compatible with USB transfer for easy data export.
Advanced Features
For demanding applications, consider models with:
A-Scan / B-Scan: For visual waveform or cross-sectional analysis (e.g., TI-MVX, TI-CMXDLP)
Adjustable Gain & Sound Velocity: For difficult materials or better control (e.g., TI-007X, TI-MMX)
Colour display: For improved readability and analysis (e.g., TI-CMXDLP-C)
Speciality Models
Some gauges are designed for specific use cases beyond standard wall thickness applications:
