Biomass
The energy value of biomass falls as its moisture rises, so anyone producing or burning wood chip, pellets, hay or straw measures moisture to price fuel fairly, protect stored material from heating and self-ignition, and run combustion efficiently. Meters for these bulk, irregular materials use probes and scales suited to a loose, variable feedstock rather than a solid sample.
