Soluble Salt Tester for Measuring Salt Contamination on Metal SurfacesThe PosiTector SST Soluble Salt Tester measures the concentration of soluble salts on metal surfaces using the Bresle method. Designed for coating inspectors, corrosion specialists and surface preparation professionals, it helps verify that a substrate is sufficiently clean before painting or coating.
The PosiTector SST measures and records conductivity, sample temperature, test duration and the calculated surface density of soluble salts, helping users perform salt contamination testing in accordance with ISO 8502-6 and ISO 8502-9. This saves time and helps eliminate manual calculation errors.
It measures:
- Conductivity in µS/cm
- Sample temperature in °C or °F
- Test duration
- Surface density of soluble salts in mg/m² or µg/cm²
Soluble salts left on a surface before coating can seriously affect coating performance. When salts remain beneath a protective coating, they can attract moisture through the coating layer, creating osmotic pressure. This may lead to corrosion, osmotic blistering, loss of adhesion and premature coating failure.
For this reason, soluble salt testing is an essential part of surface preparation quality control, especially in marine, offshore, industrial, tank, pipeline, bridge and steel structure applications. The PosiTector SST helps inspectors confirm whether a surface is ready for coating by measuring salt contamination before paint or protective coatings are applied.
How does it work?
The PosiTector SST guides the user through the Bresle test method with a simple on-screen interface.
- Take the background reading with deionized water.
- Inject the water into the Bresle patch and start the timer.
- Withdraw the sample, inject it into the PosiTector SST and record the result.

The PosiPatch is a reusable Bresle test patch for measuring salt contamination in accordance with ISO 8502-6 and ISO 8502-9. It attaches to steel surfaces using a magnetic ring, eliminating adhesive residue and reducing cleanup time.
