Coating Hardness
Coating hardness testing checks that a film has cured to the expected resistance against scratching and gouging — an early warning of under-cure or the wrong formulation. The pencil hardness test to ASTM D3363 is the established method, drawing graphite leads of graded hardness across the surface to find the point at which the coating marks. Checkline supplies the motorised pencil testers and lead sets that make the result repeatable from operator to operator.
See how the cured-film hardness methods work in the Coating Hardness Knowledge Base, then match a tester to your specification with the Coating Hardness Selection Guide.
